During his address to the Republican National Convention on Wednesday evening, Sen. Ted Cruz (R., Texas) focused on the freedoms that have been taken away from the American people during the Obama administration tenure.
"There is a better vision for our future: a return to freedom," he said.
Cruz hinted at freedoms that have been taken from the public due to recent government overreach during the current administration.
"Freedom means that every human life is precious and must be protected," he said. "Freedom means Supreme Court Justices who don't dictate policy, but instead follow the Constitution. And freedom means recognizing that our constitution allows states to choose policies that reflect local values. Colorado might decide something different than Texas."
The crowd roared.
He moved on to speak about the Bill of Rights and how it protects every American.
"Freedom means religious freedom, whether you are Christian or Jew, Muslim or atheist," he said. "Gay or straight, the Bill of Rights protects the rights of all of us to live according to our conscience."
Even though he did not endorse Donald Trump during this speech, he did remind the audience that the alternative, Hillary Clinton, supports big government.
"Hillary Clinton believes government should make virtually every choice in your life," he said. "Education, healthcare, marriage, speech—all dictated out of Washington."
He cited the Brexit vote as a sign that people in both parties, all over the the world, are starting to stand up to the government taking freedoms away from the people they preside over and giving them to the establishment.
"But something powerful is happening," he said. "We’ve seen it in both parties. We’ve seen it in the United Kingdom’s unprecedented Brexit vote to leave the European Union. Voters are overwhelmingly rejecting big government. That’s a profound victory and it is one earned by each and every one of you. People are fed up with politicians who don’t listen to them, fed up with a corrupt system that benefits the elites, instead of working men and women."
Cruz highlighted that the return to freedom is how the American public can improve their lives.
"And if we choose freedom, our future will be brighter," he said. "Freedom will bring back jobs, raise wages. Freedom will lift people out of dependency, to the dignity of work."
