Presidential candidate Julian Castro said he believes a "woman should make that choice" on late-term abortion during a Thursday morning interview.

Castro's remark came after repeated questioning over whether he agreed with Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.), who said at the Wednesday Democratic primary debate there should be no restrictions on abortions for women.

"I've said before that I believe in repealing the Hyde Amendment, because I believe not only in reproductive freedom, but also in reproductive justice," Castro said on Thursday after dodging on responding directly to questions on the issue.

Castro addressed the abortion question during Wednesday's Democratic primary debate, saying his health care plan would extend the right to an abortion to transgender women.

"I don't believe only in reproductive freedom. I believe in reproductive justice," Castro said to cheers from the audience. "What that means is that just because a woman—or let's also not forget someone in the trans community, a trans female—is poor, doesn't mean they shouldn't exercise that right to choose. So I would absolutely would cover the right to have an abortion."

Castro might have misspoken, considering that only a trans man, not trans woman, can have a uterus, become pregnant, and consequently have an abortion.

Castro ranks among a field of over 20 Democratic candidates, all of whom support abortion and many of whom have promised to codify the Supreme Court's landmark Roe v Wade decision into law if elected president.
