Becerra Falsely States Clinton Campaign Released Pneumonia Diagnosis Within 24 Hours

September 12, 2016

Rep. Xavier Becerra (D., Calif.) falsely claimed on Monday that Hillary Clinton’s campaign disclosed her pneumonia diagnosis within 24 hours. She was actually diagnosed on Friday and it was not revealed until after her fainting spell Sunday at New York’s 9/11 ceremony.

"We’re out of time but I want to go back because this just came out and I want to give you as a spokesperson, as a surrogate for the Clinton campaign, a chance to respond to it," MSNBC host Chris Jansing said. "David Axelrod just tweeted this, ‘antibiotics can take care of pneumonia. What’s the cure for an unhealthy penchant for privacy that repeatedly creates unnecessary problems?’ Did the Clinton campaign create an unnecessarily problem for itself this weekend?"

"Had they not disclosed within 24 hours, maybe you could say something like that," Becerra said.

When pressed further on the criticism from Axelrod, a notable Democrat, Becerra again claimed that the Clinton campaign released her pneumonia diagnosis within 24 hours before criticizing Donald Trump.

"As I said, had the Clinton campaign and Secretary Clinton not disclosed so quickly within 24 hours that she had pneumonia, maybe you could say more to that," Becerra said.

Axelrod was a top adviser to President Barack Obama during both of his presidential campaigns and in the White House.
