Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu disclosed on Tuesday that the Jewish state has quietly prevented "several dozen major terrorist attacks" in Europe, including plots to use civilian airlines in an attack, according to recent comments.
Netanyahu, speaking to international diplomats in Jerusalem, revealed that Israel has helped to foil dozens of potential attacks by terrorists targeting a range of countries in Europe.
"We have, through our intelligence services, provided information that has stopped several dozen major terrorist attacks, many of them in European countries," Netanyahu was quoted as saying in reports.
Some of the attacks that Israel's intelligence services prevented would have been "mass attacks" of the harshest variety, according to Netanyahu.
"Some of these could have been mass attacks, of the worst kind that you have experienced on the soil of Europe and even worse, because they involve civil aviation. Israel has prevented that, and thereby helped save many European lives," Netanyahu said.
Israel has remained on the front lines in the fight against terrorist and Iranian proxy groups such as Hezbollah and others continue to gain a foothold in the region.
