Democratic strategist Jenna Arnold voiced a concern Tuesday over the Trump administration’s mass deportations: How will Americans get blueberries?
"I can’t wait until American women can’t get blueberries for their smoothies," Arnold said on CNN NewsNight. "I cannot wait until there is a full crackdown on all small businesses as if that's going to be the solution to the immigration problem."
"It doesn't make sense to punish individuals and people when there is a broken system," added Arnold, who previously served as a surrogate for former president Joe Biden and Sen. John Fetterman (D., Pa.).
The CNN panel was debating whether illegal immigrants’ employers would face prosecution as a result of President Donald Trump's deportation efforts. Scott Jennings, one of the few Republican voices on CNN, said all illegal immigrants should be eligible for deportation because they’ve already broken the law.
"If you came here illegally and you came and you know you did it, you know you broke the law," Jennings said. "You have to understand it's a new day in America."
His comments echoed White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, who said Tuesday that all 3,500 of the illegal immigrants ICE has arrested since Trump took office have criminal records "because they illegally broke our nation's laws" when they entered the United States.
Meanwhile, CNN on Jan. 22 highlighted surveys that found a majority of Americans support deporting all illegal immigrants. Data reporter Henry Enten pointed to New York Times, ABC News, CBS News, and Marquette University Law School polls showing as much. In the case of Marquette, 64 percent said they somewhat or strongly favor "deporting immigrants who are living in the United States illegally back to their home countries."
