Former president Donald Trump said on Wednesday morning that he will debate Democratic nominee Kamala Harris in the "near future."
"I heard she’s sort of a nasty person but not a good debater, but we’ll see because we’ll be debating her, I guess, in the pretty near future," Trump said during a phone call on Fox and Friends. "It's gonna be announced fairly soon, but we’ll be debating her."
Trump said his agreement to a Sept. 10 ABC debate with President Joe Biden "has been terminated" since the incumbent was forced to end his reelection campaign and "pass the torch" to his vice president.
Harris’s campaign bashed Trump for backing out of the debate and said the Democratic nominee plans to appear on the network that night whether he joins her or not.
Trump, however, said he is eager to debate the Democrats’ new candidate.
"I want to debate her. I think it's important for the country that we debate," Trump said. "Now, where it is, now I’m all for Fox … but two people have to agree."
Trump said that other networks, such as CBS, NBC, and ABC, are courting him to "say yes" and choose their network to host the debate. "Every network loves me very much right now," the former president said.
