House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R.) is reportedly set to back an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden.
McCarthy will tell his slim House majority on Tuesday that an impeachment effort is "the logical next step," Fox News reported.
The speaker is also expected to make the case for an inquiry during a Thursday Republican meeting where committee chairs will report their latest findings into the Biden family, including the president's role in his son Hunter's business dealings.
McCarthy previously said an inquiry would only follow a House vote and that he won't use it for political purposes.
"To open an impeachment inquiry is a serious matter, and House Republicans would not take it lightly or use it for political purposes. The American people deserve to be heard on this matter through their elected representatives," McCarthy told Breitbart News in August. "That’s why, if we move forward with an impeachment inquiry, it would occur through a vote on the floor of the People’s House and not through a declaration by one person."
House Republicans are investigating potential politicization of the Justice Department's investigation into Hunter Biden, the president's involvement in the family's overseas business dealings, and Hunter Biden's use of government jets.
House Republicans are also set to subpoena members of the Biden family.
