Valerie Jarrett’s power continues to grow in the Obama White House.

White House senior adviser Valerie Jarrett sent Gov. Rick Perry (R., Tex.) a letter Monday requesting a meeting with him during President Obama’s trip this week to Texas.

During Tuesday's press briefing, this led ABC’s Jon Karl to question White House press secretary Josh Earnest on why the letter came from Jarrett and not from the president.

"By the way, why was this letter, this invitation coming from Valerie Jarrett?" Karl asked Earnest.

"Well, as you know, Valerie has spent a lot of time maintaining our relationships here in the White House with governors across the country, so she was the one who responded," Earnest responded.

Earlier in the briefing Earnest said Perry has accepted an invitation to a group meeting in Dallas that will include local officials and faith leaders.
