Fox & Friends Rip Kaine for Not Coming on Show, Say He Was Afraid of Tough Questions

September 2, 2016

The hosts of the Fox News morning program Fox & Friends ripped Sen. Tim Kaine (D., Va.) on Friday for doing a full round of television appearances the prior day but not accepting their invitation.

Kaine, the Democratic vice presidential nominee, appeared on NBC, ABC, CBS, CNN, and MSNBC on Thursday to criticize Donald Trump’s visit with the Mexican president and speech on dealing with illegal immigration. Kaine did not appear on Fox, however, and in the clip flagged by Politico, co-host Brian Kilmeade said it was hypocritical of him to say Trump "choked" during his visit in Mexico.

"It’s laughable that Tim Kaine said that Donald Trump ... choked in not telling the Mexican president [about payment for the wall]," Kilmeade said. "Really? This is the Tim Kaine that ... refuses to come on our show yesterday, because I guess he projected the questions would be too tough, and he’s saying Donald Trump choked because when he first met the president of Mexico—and by the way, Donald Trump’s not president yet. He didn’t say, here’s the invoice."

Fellow host Tucker Carlson laughed, asking if Kaine would have been happier if "Trump had yelled at the Mexican president."

"Tim Kaine, we would love for you to come on our show," co-host Ainsley Earhardt said. "We called them so many times. I personally called them. He wouldn’t come on our show. He did the whole round robin."
