Cory Gardner One-Liner During a Senate Hearing Leaves Everyone Laughing

April 21, 2015

A day after the "unofficial weed holiday," Sen. Cory Gardner (R., Colo.) dropped a zinger about his state’s favorite plant during a subcommittee hearing.

As Sen. Roger Wicker (R., Miss.) and Sen. Cory Booker (D., N.J.) were chatting during a Subcommittee on Communications, Technology, Innovation and the Internet hearing on Advancing Telehealth Through Connectivity, the conversation went off topic to an unrelated subject: cherry blossoms.

Booker was pleased when Wicker brought up his city’s cherry blossom collection. The former mayor of Newark bragged that his city possessed the most cherry blossoms in the country–not Washington, D.C.

Gardner chimed in to save us all from more talk about the infamous attraction that brings in millions of tourists to the nation’s capital.

The freshman senator quipped that his state also boasted many popular plants.

"Mr. Chairman, we have some buds in Colorado, too," Gardner said.

Gardner’s office then posted the clip on his YouTube page, indicating he was proud of his comment, which brought the whole room to laughter.

Thousands of Coloradoans went to smoke in front of the state capitol to celebrate "420." Denver and Boulder are considered the epicenters of marijuana in the United States.
