Flashback 2012: Antony Blinken: Iraq Today Is Less Violent

In an interview with Bill Hemmer on America’s Newsroom regarding the resurgence of al Qaeda in Iraq, Sen. John McCain (R., Ariz.) pointed to a 2012 speech Antony Blinken gave at the Center For American Progress, to show how out of touch the Obama administration is with what's happening in Iraq.

Blinken claimed that "Iraq today is less violent, more democratic, and more prosperous. And the United States is more deeply engaged there than any other time in history."

At the time of the speech, Blinken was deputy assistant to President Barack Obama and national security advisor to Vice President Joe Biden. Now, Blinken serves as deputy national security adviser for President Obama.
