Opinions have become more nuanced ever since, especially among Democrats. In what some consider a sign of "progress," the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate in Michigan was recently a featured speaker at an Islamic convention alongside a distinguished array of 9/11 truthers, Holocaust deniers, and terrorist supporters.
Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic mayor of New York City, was elected days after posing with a radical imam linked to several terrorists convicted in connection with the first World Trade Center bombing. His chief counsel, Ramzi Kassem, is a former al Qaeda lawyer whose girlfriend, Darializa Avila Chevalier, is all but certain to serve in Congress next year after winning the Democratic primary with Mamdani's endorsement. She is best known for attending a pro-Hamas rally on Oct. 8, 2023.
Mamdani also endorsed New York State Senate candidate Aber Kawas, who said the United States brought 9/11 on itself because "the system of capitalism and racism, umm, and white supremacy, et cetera, and Islamophobia, have all been used, umm, you know, to, uh, colonize lands, right?"
Adbul El-Sayed, the Michigan Democratic Senate candidate, won the nomination after palling around with Hasan Piker on the campaign trail. The pro-Hamas influencer is best known for his (half-heartedly recanted) comments about why "America deserved 9/11, dude." Piker has described El-Sayed's critics as "Islamophobic pieces of shit."
