Wounded warrior Derek Weida lost his right leg after being shot through the knee while leading an assault on a house in Iraq.
His dream of returning to active duty was crushed, and he moved in and out of jail while struggling with severe depression and heavy drinking.
That all changed when a friend invited him to try a Tough Mudder competition. Once his passion for pushing his limits physically was reignited, he decided to try and start his own gym. A crowdfunding campaign and partnership with Anytime Fitness later, he has reached his goal.
Today Weida runs his own branch of Anytime Fitness and staffs it with other veterans. He's working to help keep other veterans from falling into the same situation he once found himself in.
