A Korean War veteran is being threatened with a $500 fee for flying an American flag and a POW-MIA flag outside of his home.
"It means a lot to me. We fought for that flag," Robert Willits told WTHR.
The homeowners' association for the Indiana neighborhood Willits lives in believes his flag pole is in violation of their rules. They reportedly said Willits must remove the flag pole or pay a $500 fee for legal costs.
Robert Willits is not backing down. Robert was injured in the Korean war and his brother Lester gave his life there.
"Lester is still there. So I'm going to keep it up," he said.
Robert's wife Judy is equally upset about the ordeal.
"With the penalties they've imposed on us, I feel it's really un-American for somebody that is 100 percent disabled vet," she said.
Despite community support and a demonstration of veterans outside the Willits' home, the homeowners association has not backed down either. Both sides have reportedly hired lawyers to represent them in the dispute.
