Donald Trump Greeted With Cheers at Army-Navy Game

December 12, 2016

President-elect Donald Trump was greeted with cheers when he arrived at the 117th Army-Navy football game at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore on Saturday.

In an interview with CBS Sports announcers Verne Lundquist and Gary Danielson, Trump said he was "totally neutral" on the outcome of the game and attended because of his love for the armed forces. He joked that Lundquist would be appointed ambassador to Sweden.

"I just love the armed forces, love the folks," Trump said. "The spirit is so incredible. I mean, I don't know if it's necessarily the best football, but it's very good. But, boy, do they have spirit."

"Is it a humbling thought that in six weeks you're going to be the commander in chief of those guys?" Danielson asked.

"It is humbling. It's a great honor, but it's a great responsibility. And when you see these incredible people, we just want to be strong, and they want to be strong. And I mean, it's just, it's beautiful to see," Trump said. "And the spirit, you don't see this at any game. I go to many games, you don't see this kind of spirit anywhere. So these are just amazing people."

The game ended with the Army's Black Knights pulling off a surprising victory after a comeback in the fourth quarter, finishing off the game with a 21-17 win.

Trump spent the first half of the game with David Urban, one of his advisers in Pennsylvania and a West Point graduate, and the second half in the box of retired Marine Lt. Col. Oliver North, a Navy graduate, according to ESPN.

The president-elect was also reportedly accompanied by incoming chief of staff Reince Priebus, National Security Advisor Lt. Gen. Mike Flynn (ret.), chief strategist Steve Bannon, and former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

The cadets cheered loudly when they saw Trump.

"They're all screaming 'make America great again,'" Trump said.
