McDonald's CEO: We're Not Planning for a 'Resurgent Economy'

Possible payroll tax, 'certain investments back into broader economy,' high unemployment rate all lead to skittish economy

Appearing on Squawk Box Friday morning, McDonald's CEO Don Thompson cast doubt on a steady US economic recovery.

"I think what we're seeing, Carl, relative to the US, is we've seen these starts and stops of a recovery, and I think earlier retail sales earlier this year showed that things were slowing just a bit," Thompson said while responding to Carl Quintanilla's question about the state of the economy.

Gross domestic product in the United States grew by 2.5% between January and March, falling short of expectations.
