The Russia Investigation: It's Still All CNN Talks About

January 25, 2018

CNN has devoted extensive coverage to Special Counsel Robert Mueller's sprawling Russia investigation, enough so that its own reporter Maeve Reston remarked Sunday that it's "all we talk about" at the network.

"Remember, even in 2016 when we went out to these swing states and talked to voters, there was still this fear that things were suddenly going to turn down again," Reston said on "Inside Politics." "You don't feel that as much anymore. And I'm so interested to see how the Russia investigation affects things, because so far, out in these districts when you talk to people about Russia–and that's all we talk about at CNN basically–they say they don't care."

To her point, two days later as news broke about Mueller's reported interviews of Attorney General Jeff Sessions and former FBI Director James Comey, CNN anchors and reporters uttered the term "Russia investigation" 61 times over 20 hours of original programming.

Although the investigation began as one into Russian interference in the 2016 election and whether President Donald Trump's campaign colluded with the Kremlin, Mueller's probe is reportedly zeroing in on whether Trump committed obstruction with his firings of Comey and National Security Adviser Michael Flynn.
