President Donald Trump tweeted on Tuesday that a report about how he almost rescinded Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch's nomination was "fake news."
Earlier on Tuesday, the Washington Post published a story saying Trump considered rescinding the nomination after Gorsuch met with Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D., Conn.). Gorsuch, according to several people with knowledge of the situation, distanced himself from the president and was critical during the meeting of Trump's comments on the judiciary, according to the Post.
Gorsuch's confirmation to the Supreme Court was one of Trump's earliest major achievements in the Senate.
"A story in the @washingtonpost that I was close to "rescinding" the nomination of Justice Gorsuch prior to confirmation is FAKE NEWS. I never even wavered and am very proud of him and the job he is doing as a Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. The unnamed sources don’t exist!" Trump tweeted.
