Dem Rep: John Kelly Is 'Not Honorable'

November 3, 2017

Rep. Ruben Gallego (D., Ariz.) accused White House chief of staff John Kelly on Friday of not being an honorable man.

Gallego was being interviewed on Friday by MSNBC's Chris Hayes about Kelly's feud with Rep. Frederica Wilson (D., Fla.). Hayes brought up previous comments Gallego made about Kelly in a BuzzFeed interview. The congressman said the retired general "is going to be used as a weapon, so don't be distracted by what he used to have on his lapel."

Gallego continued his attack on Kelly, saying the chief of staff was trying to "use" his service history in the Marines and that he "willingly is being used by the Trump administration."

"Do you think he's an honorable man?" Hayes asked.

"At this point, the way he's acting, he's not honorable. You lied about another fellow human being, you were caught in the lie and you have not actually owned up to your actions," Gallego said. "Not only are you not honorable, you're not an adult."

Gallego was referring to accusations that Kelly lied when he described a time Wilson spoke at a building dedication ceremony. He commented how he and others thought the congresswoman inappropriately took credit for securing funds for the new Miami-area FBI building. After a video of the event emerged, Kelly's account was brought into question. Kelly, however, has said he stands by his comments and believed the congresswomen behaved inappropriately.

Gallego enlisted in the Marine Corps in 2000, and served until 2006. Kelly retired from the Marine Corps in 2016 as a Four-star General, and is also a Gold Star Father.
