Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin (D., Ill.) gave his take Monday on whether he thought 2016 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton was being selfish and "blaming" others for her election loss with the release of her new memoir, What Happened.
Durbin appeared on "Bloomberg Markets: Americas" where host Julia Chatterly asked the senator for his take.
"Some in Democratic circles are saying this is a blame game, and desperately unhelpful to the Democratic Party. Do you think it's Hillary Clinton is being selfish here?" host Julia Chatterly asked.
"No I don't. She is entitled to tell her side of the story. We've certainly heard the other side for the last seven or eight months, as to what happened in the course of that campaign," Durbin said.
Durbin mentioned he played a role in the campaign under Clinton's direction. He specifically mentioned Iowa and Wisconsin, states Clinton lost.
"There are people who think she could have done more there [the midwest states]. But, she's entitled to tell her side of the story for history's sake and for her own personal sake."
Durbin ultimately praised Clinton for saying she is "done being a candidate," and discussed the significance of What Happened.
"I respect her very much, and I respect the fact that she said she is never going to be a candidate again. So certainly this book brings to close a Clinton chapter in American history."
