Rep. Mark Meadows (R., N.C.) said that President Donald Trump is "going to deliver" on health care during an appearance on "Fox and Friends" Friday morning.
Meadows was reacting to the Senate vote that took place Thursday night into Friday morning that ultimately rejected the current proposal to move forward with a Republican plan to repeal and replace Obamacare.
Host Steve Doocy mentioned that Meadows had a phone conversation with Trump earlier in the morning, and asked him where the Republican Party and the president will go from this point forward.
"What we need to really do is focus on delivering on the promise," Meadows said. "And I can tell you the president, as you mentioned, is already engaged this morning. We're going to go back to work to make sure that we actually get a bill."
Meadows, the chairman of the House Freedom Caucus, said he is "optimistic" that the GOP can get a "perfect" bill written to go forward in a few weeks, despite people losing faith.
"I can tell you who's staying in," Meadows said. "The president is staying in on this fight. He is going to deliver, he made it very clear this morning."
