Chelsea Handler Immediately Messes Up Basic Fact About Elizabeth Warren During Their Interview

May 25, 2017

Left-wing Netflix host Chelsea Handler had plenty of time to prepare for a taped interview with Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.), but she got a basic fact wrong right out of the gate.

"Thank you for writing this book," Handler said to Warren in a restaurant, holding up a copy of This Fight Is Our Fight. "You've written a lot of books, 11 or 12 books, I think. You've been a huge voice in the last few years, and you just came into the Senate in 2011, and I think a lot of people probably don't know that."

That was wrong. Warren was elected in 2012 when she defeated GOP incumbent Sen. Scott Brown and took office in January of 2013.

Warren gently corrected her.

"Actually 2013," she said.

"Oh, shoot-ski," Handler said.

Handler is an enthusiastic political commentator, but she has confessed to lacking knowledge on the finer points of politics before. Last year, she told MSNBC she recently had gerrymandering fully explained to her.

During the interview, she gushed over Warren's fight for the middle class and assured the lawmaker that she would be there to help her re-election fight in 2018.

Handler came to Washington, D.C., to film a series of interviews with Democrats for her Netflix shows, including Sens. Al Franken (D., Minn.) and Kirsten Gillibrand (D., N.Y.). While promoting the show to reporters last week, Handler boasted about once telling Ivanka Trump to her face "I can't even with you."
