NYT Reporter: Democrats Flooding My Inbox Calling Ossoff a 'Terrible Candidate'

April 19, 2017

New York Times reporter Glenn Thrush said on Wednesday that Democrats have been flooding his email's inbox to call Democratic congressional hopeful Jon Ossoff  "a terrible candidate."

Thrush was appearing on MSNBC's "Morning Joe," where he commented on the results of Tuesday's special election race for Georgia's sixth congressional district.

"Look, what is interesting is my inbox this morning has been flooded by Democrats who are sort of saying Ossoff was a terrible candidate," Thrush said.

"I think the larger issue that we're dealing with here right now is the fact that the Democrats just don't have a lot of candidates, not just in Georgia but around the country in general," Thrush continued. "There's not a lot of people to kind of catch this Trump wave, and as we recall from the presidential election, just running as anti-Trump when you don't have a personality to project or a message that's really going to capture people's imagination."

Ossoff received the largest portion of votes, but fell short of the 50 percent he needed to secure his place in the House seat vacated by current Secretary of Health and Human Services Tom Price. He will now face Republican candidate Karen Handel in a runoff election in June.
