The National Rifle Association will be considering senators' support of Neil Gorsuch in the upcoming elections.
Executive Director of the NRA Institute for Legislative Action Chris Cox has sent a letter to Senate leaders, telling them that their confirmation votes on President Donald Trump's nominee to the Supreme Court will be part of their election scorecards, according to the Washington Examiner.
"Judge Gorsuch has made clear his understanding of the importance of the Second Amendment's guarantee of the right to keep and bear arms for self-defense in past opinions," Cox wrote in the letter.
"Because of the importance of this issue to NRA members and gun owners throughout the country, votes on his confirmation will be considered in future candidate evaluations and we will notify our members accordingly," he concluded.
The election scorecards are used by members of the NRA to see different politicians' stance on gun rights. Jon Tester (D., Mont.), Heidi Heitkamp (D., N.D.), and Joe Donnelly (D., Ind.) all face reelection in states won by President Donald Trump, and would benefit from favorable scoring from the NRA.
