It's a time-honored tradition for slack-jawed, progressive celebrities: Swear you'll move to Canada or somewhere else far worse than America because a Republican won the presidency.
In this case, the man who could make expatriates out of many of Hollywood's finest was Donald Trump, a uniquely unpopular nominee whose candidacy inspired visceral criticism from the media and entertainment sectors of American culture.
The "move to Canada" gimmick is a stupid and empty promise just about every single time. The vows this year were made from everyone from Lena Dunham to Ne-Yo to Bryan Cranston to Amy Schumer to Whoopi Goldberg to a bunch of other, less important celebrities.
These appeared to be very serious claims made by people of heightened wokeness. However, many of the celebrities have retracted their pledges to move in the wake of Trump's surprising victory over Hillary Clinton.
Perhaps this unoriginal and vacuous gesture should never be made in the first place.
