House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.), referencing a remark made by Rep. Mike Pompeo (R., Kan.) to Politico that sequestration cuts are a "home run," said Thursday that "doesn't sound like anybody's on Team America."
"We want solutions, Republicans want sequestration," Pelosi said. "Some of them have even called it a home run. That doesn’t sound like anybody's on Team America if they think sequestration’s indiscriminate, mindless cuts across the board are a home run."
Team America: World Police was a 2004, R-rated puppet film made by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the brains behind South Park. The movie depicts an elite squad of protectors that recruit a Broadway star, Gary Johnston, to stop a global terrorist plot. Featuring a villainous North Korean dictator Kim Jong-il bent on destroying the world with the unwitting assistance of the liberal actors of Hollywood, it remains one of the highest-grossing movies ever involving marionettes.
Pompeo made his remarks after the State of the Union address, predicting the American people would be proud of Congress for following through on the spending reductions and that the markets would respond positively.
"It's going to be a home run," Pompeo said. "We're doing what the American people asked the United States House of Representatives to do in 2010 when I came here. We're reducing the size and scope of the federal government."
