Carson: ‘Elderly’ Clinton Should Release Health Records

August 24, 2016

Former Republican presidential candidate and neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson called on Hillary Clinton to release her health records on Wednesday because she is "elderly."

Carson, a surrogate for Donald Trump’s campaign, was asked by MSNBC contributor Mike Barnicle about Trump’s strategy in talking about Clinton’s health.

"I think that somebody who is running for president of the United States, particularly if they’re elderly–and that would include both major candidates–should disclose their medical history," Carson said.

Carson added that releasing health records is "common sense" since things begin to happen to people as they get older.

Barnicle then asked Carson about comments made by former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who said that people can diagnose Clinton’s health issues by going online and typing "Hillary Clinton illness" to find videos.

Carson deflected the question and said that as a physician he generally did not make a diagnosis based off something he sees from a distance. However, he did provide a diagnosis for the "elderly" who are running for president of the United States.

"My diagnosis would be that anybody who is elderly should expose their records, and we the people should know what they are," Carson said. "Because it’s a very stressful job–it’s not an eight hour a day job; it’s 24/7, and we need to make sure that it’s taken care of," Carson said.

NBC’s Willie Geist asked Carson whether Trump should be held to the same standard on releasing his health records.

"Absolutely, without question" Carson said.
