Vice President Joe Biden said Wednesday that there was no possible way supporters of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.) would not come around and support Hillary Clinton in the general election.
ABC's George Stephanopoulos asked Biden what he says to Sanders' supporters and the members of the Bernie or Bust movement when they say they can't support Clinton out of principle. Biden's answered Stephanopoulos in a strange, quiet manner.
"You know, I look at you, I say, I know you're going to vote for Hillary," Biden said.
"How do you know?" Stephanopoulos asked.
"I just know because you're as moral as you say you are, I know you can't vote for Trump," Biden said. "I know."
Many Sanders supporters have said that they will not support Clinton in the general election and will vote for either Donald Trump, Green Party candidate Dr. Jill Stein or Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson. Some have indicated they won't vote at all. These supporters of Sanders believe that Clinton stands for everything they oppose, including her close ties to Wall Street and the widespread belief that she isn't trustworthy.
During the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, many Sanders supporters have protested and chanted slogans such as, "lock her up." Clinton was officially nominated Tuesday evening, making her the first woman to be the head of a major party's ticket in American history.
