Sanders Says He's Unsure of Clinton's Platform

April 22, 2016

In an interview with Andrea Mitchell, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.) says that before supporting Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign, if she wins the Democratic presidential nomination, he would have to figure out what her campaign platform is.

"Will you help persuade your young followers, if she wins the nomination, to follow her the way she campaigned for Barack Obama?" Mitchell asked.

"Well, first of all, I got to find out what her platform is, what the views are that she is going to be bringing forth, to what degree she will adopt many of the ideas that are extremely popular and I think, very sensible," Sanders said.

"But, it is again, a two-way street," Sanders said. "I want to see the Democratic party have the courage to stand up to big money interests in a way that they have not in the past, take on the drug companies, take on Wall Street, take on the fossil fuel industry and I want to see them come up with ideas that really do excite working families and young people in this country.

Mitchell then asked Sanders if he would be willing to be Clinton's running mate.

"At this point, could you imagine yourself on a ticket with Hillary Clinton?" Mitchell asked.

"Again, we are, right now, I am working really hard this week in Pennsylvania," Sanders said. "We're going to go to Rhode Island, we're going to, five states are up, that's where we're focusing right now, to win as many of these states as we can."
