CNN anchor John Berman mentioned Sunday that Hillary Clinton's claim about the Islamic State showing inflammatory Donald Trump videos for recruitment had been debunked by fact-checkers, but then remarked, "We will leave that aside" to divert discussion to other, more Clinton-friendly matters.
"We also need to make sure that the really discriminatory messages that Trump is sending around the world don't fall on receptive ears," Clinton said during the debate. "He is becoming ISIS's best recruiter. They are going to people showing videos of Donald Trump insulting Islam and Muslims in order to recruit more radical jihadists, so I want to explain why this is not in America's interest to react with this kind of fear and respond to this sort of bigotry."
The New York Times said there was "no proof" for Clinton's claim about ISIS showing Trump videos to recruit more terrorists, and PolitiFact rated her statement "False."
Berman played the clip of Clinton on Inside Politics, and then said, "The fact-checkers, by the way, say at this point there's no proof ISIS is showing people those videos, but we will leave that aside."
The political panel then discussed the data breach controversy involving the Bernie Sanders campaign and how Clinton handled it at the debate, in addition to further conversation about Trump and his endorsement from Russian president Vladimir Putin.
