Finney: Clinton Took National Security and Classified Information 'Very Seriously'

August 25, 2015

Hillary Clinton spokeswoman Karen Finney said Clinton took her responsibilities regarding national security and classified information "very seriously" as secretary of state in a Tuesday interview with MSNBC.

Clinton has come under fire for her use of a private email while secretary of state and passing classified information through her unsecured home server.

Clinton has insisted that she did not knowingly send or receive classified material and that emails were retroactively marked that way, but a Reuters report said dozens were classified from the beginning, and McClatchy reports the data in Clinton's "secret" emails contained information from five different intelligence agencies.

Asked by anchor Thomas Roberts what to expect when Clinton testifies in front of the House Benghazi Committee on Oct. 22, Finney said Clinton would handle it the same way she had in other hearings.

"When Hillary testifies, Americans are going to see this is a woman who has great command of the facts," Finney said. "This is someone who takes--took her responsibility in terms of the secrets of this country and national security and classified information very seriously. There's been a lot of misinformation that has muddied the waters on this, and I think she's going to help make it a lot clearer to people what's separating fact from fiction."
