Huffington Post reporter Sam Stein said that the scrutiny Hillary Clinton has faced for her email use as secretary of state is one of her own making in an interview with Alex Wagner on Monday.
Stein disagreed with Howard Dean’s assertions Clinton was receiving unfair treatment from the media, alleging Clinton brought scrutiny upon herself with her decision to use a private email account and server, which may have inappropriately contained classified material.
"She made her own bed with this, and that explains a lot of why voters distrust her," Stein said. "They don’t view her as being an up-and-up operator on this stuff and that’s what is hurting her in the polls."
Stein said Clinton appears to sway with the political winds when she refuses to take a stance on policy issues, such as the Keystone XL pipeline.
"It can also make her look incredibly calculating, too," Stein said. "There is a constant theme throughout her career that critics have of her, that she waits to see which way the wind is blowing and then decides her position."
Clinton declined to offer insight into whether she supports the project that would deliver millions of barrels of oil from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico.
