Sen. John McCain (R., Ariz.) blasted Sen. Kay Hagan (D., N.C.) for skipping a classified briefing on the Islamic State (IS, ISIL, or ISIS) in order to attend a fundraiser, according to the Charlotte Observer.
McCain made the comments on Tuesday while campaigning for Republican Thom Tillis, who is making a serious challenge to Hagan's seat in the Senate.
"Here we are with Americans being beheaded and Sen. Hagan doesn’t even show up for the briefing," McCain said. "She goes to a fundraiser instead."
"ISIS is winning," he said. "We’re losing."
The Washington Free Beacon first reported in September that there was a cocktail fundraiser scheduled for Hagan in New York City on the same day of a classified committee hearing with top U.S. intelligence officials regarding the Islamic State.
Hagan chairs the Subcommittee on Emerging Threats and Capabilities and has been slammed by Tillis for inaction during the rise of the terrorist group.
