RNC Chair: Harry Reid is Dirty, Unethical

Chairman of the Republican National Committee Reince Priebus called Sen. Harry Reid (D., Nev.) "dirty" and "unethical" over the senator’s shady schemes.

Reid has abused his power as a senator, Priebus told Steve Doocy on Fox and Friends Wednesday morning. Senators and congressmen must abide by a set of ethics rules. Under Senate Rule 2, senators must use taxpayer money, but are not permitted to spend such money on political purposes.

The Nevada senator uses his Senate.gov website as a base to launch partisan propaganda and attacks, posting negative items about the Koch brothers and also using a blog site to attack Republicans.

Reid has also taken to his official senate twitter account to tweet partisan infographics smearing Republicans, Priebus said. Senators have a different website and separate twitter account from which they are allowed to post these types of attacks, but Reid has repeatedly failed to use these avenues.

Instead, he uses staff, taxpayer money, resources, websites, and computer equipment to spew vitriol about the GOP. Such unethical actions are considered to be violations under Senate rules.

In an effort to stop the senator from continuing to use taxpayer money for partisan political purposes, the Louisiana GOP has filed an ethics letter with the Senate against Reid. The letter is currently in the Senate Ethics Committee.

"Harry Reid is so dirty and so unethical that…you have to put a marker down and say, ‘Wait a second. You are not going to use a taxpayer website and a taxpayer Twitter to attack Republicans," Priebus explained.
