We’re just about a week through the 2014 Winter Olympics, and my only memory thus far is of American ice luger Kate Hansen helping me sober up after a night of taking Fireball shots off a shotski.
If shotskis ever are made an Olympic sport, look out!
Twerking lugers aside, this has been a banner year for lady Olympians. American figure skater Ashley Wagner reacted exactly like anyone else would act if they placed behind someone whose routine ate it.
On the slopes, the world witnessed the first ever tie for Olympic alpine downhill skiing. I haven't kept up with skiing much since my days dominating SSX Tricky on the Playstation 2, proving that if a sport doesn't feature Run DMC , it just doesn't matter.
Skier and current Sochi Smoke Tina Maze of Slovenia, and new Sochi Smoke Dominique Gisin of Switzerland, raced a outstanding heat, with the favored Maze and underdog Gisin tied at 1:41:57.
Gisin finished the course first and wasn't too broken up about the tie, telling the NYT, "Sometimes you’re behind the hundredths on the scoreboard, sometimes you’re ahead of the hundredths and sometimes you’re in the middle. I’m O.K. in the middle."
Maze wasn't too shook up about the result either.
You can see why: She won her country's first ever Olympic Gold Medal.
With Lindsey Vonn out for the Winter Games and Julia Mancuso finishing eighth in the event, the women's alpine was in desperate need for some intriguing story lines.
They found them in Maze and Gisen.
The first ever tie in skiing in either gender: just another glass window smashed by a couple of world class ladies.
