Humiliation Complete: Kamala Harris Certifies Own Defeat to Donald Trump

The joy is officially gone

January 6, 2025

Vice President Kamala Harris did the right thing and certified the Electoral College results on Monday, sealing her own defeat to Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election amid raucous applause from members of Congress. "The votes for president of the United States are as follows: Donald J. Trump of the State of Florida has received 312 votes," Harris said while standing alongside House Speaker Mike Johnson (R., La.), who joined his fellow Republicans in a standing ovation. "Kamala D. Harris of the State of California has received 226 votes." Democrats applauded as well, but their lack of joy was palpable.

It was a final act of public humiliation for Harris, who became the first sitting vice president to certify his or her own defeat since Al Gore in 2001. After being installed as the Democratic Party's presidential nominee last summer, Harris thoroughly embarrassed herself by running one of the most incompetent and incoherent campaigns in American history. Most experts assess that Harris's failed campaign was even worse than Hillary Clinton's historically atrocious White House bid in 2016. Days before Harris was subjected to the demeaning spectacle on Capitol Hill, she reminded Americans of her unrivaled ineptitude and dishonored our flag with a botched rendition of the Pledge of Allegiance. "I pledge allegiance to the United States of the United States of America," she said, disgracefully.

Harris leaves office in two weeks along with President Joe Biden, the doddering 82-year-old she replaced on the Democratic ticket due to his profound cognitive decline.
