WATCH: Pelosi Dismisses Concerns About Biden's Age—'He's a Kid to Me'

July 20, 2023

Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.) downplayed concerns about President Joe Biden's age by noting he's younger than her, despite a majority of Americans saying they doubt he would make it through a second term.

"Age is a relative thing, it is. And I think this president, our country is very well-served by his leadership," Pelosi, 83, said in a Wednesday interview on MSNBC regarding the 80-year-old Biden. "He’s younger than I am, so he’s a kid to me as well."

Pelosi noted that she recently met with 100-year-old screenwriter Norman Lear and 94-year-old architect Frank Gehry. Pelosi claimed they said of Biden, "80? He’s a kid!"

The former House speaker added that making an issue of Biden's age is "an excuse."

Her comments comes as the majority of Americans believe Biden would not complete a second term in office.

A May Harvard Caps/Harris poll found that 61 percent of Americans think Vice President Kamala Harris would take over for Biden at some point during a second term.

Fifty-seven percent of respondents expressed doubt about Biden's mental fitness and 67 percent said he's shown he's too old to be president.

"It’s legitimate for people to raise issues about my age," Biden told ABC in February. "It’s totally legitimate to do that. And the only thing I can say is, ‘Watch me.’"
