Veep thoughts: While serving as district attorney of San Francisco in 2005, Kamala Harris brought felony charges against the mother of a 12-year-old boy who was mauled to death by the family's pit bull. The case resulted in a mistrial after the jury failed to arrive at a unanimous verdict, potentially as a result of prosecutorial incompetence.
