Rep. Maxine Waters' (D., Calif.) microphone was cut off during her remarks before the African American Caucus at the California Democratic Party's convention on Saturday.

Los Angeles Times reporter Jazmine Ulloa tweeted out videos of the tumult.

A convention staff member came up to Waters as she discussed the latest in the controversy over President Trump's Oval Office meeting with top Russian diplomats. As the crowd voiced its displeasure with the interruption, Waters said, "They try to shut me up all the time," drawing cheers.

Some audience members left, but others stayed and chanted "keep going" at Waters, who has become a progressive darling with her repeated calls for Trump's impeachment.

Waters then kept speaking without a microphone. After she encouraged those watching to use different means of communication to resist Trump, she finished off with a call to "impeach 45," leading to another chant.

The incident marked another contentious moment at the meeting of Democrats in California. Earlier in the weekend, Democratic National Committee chair Tom Perez had to shout himself hoarse over protesters, and State Party chair John Burton yelled at them to "shut the fuck up."
