"Morning Joe" host Joe Scarborough said Friday that White House strategist Steve Bannon thinks President Donald Trump is "dumb."
Scarborough's comments followed Mika Brzezinski's reading of clips of Bannon saying his American Prospect interview drew fire away from the president. Bannon spoke with the left-leaning magazine earlier this week and ripped White House colleagues and directly contradicted Trump on North Korea policy.
Scarborough didn't buy that.
"Actually, he didn't, but if that makes him feel better," Scarborough said. "I guess he thinks the president is so stupid that he can say that. I mean, because he does think the president's dumb."
Scarborough justified his position by pointing out Bannon's confidence in the interview.
"You read the interview and Bannon says I'm going to fire this person, I'm going to move that person out. I'm responsible for this, he tells everybody he's responsible for everything. I guess he thinks the president's so stupid, he'll easily be distracted by that stupid little sleight of hand," Scarborough said.
Scarborough wasn't done with his comparison and proceeded to describe Bannon's behavior in colorful terms.
"It's like, hey kid, look over here while he's taking money out of Trump's pocket, look over here, while he's taking credibility, look over here, while he's telling everybody I got him elected, I got him elected. He would have never been elected except for me,'" Scarborough said.
Scarborough continued to accuse Bannon of having an ego over Trump's election win, suggesting he leaked the information for Josh Green's book Devil's Bargain, which portrays Bannon as instrumental to Trump's victory.
