A group of liberal-leaning mothers forced an elite Manhattan private school to cancel an annual ice skating party for its students after learning that it would be held at an ice-rink that bears President Trump's name.
The Dalton School's "Dalton on Ice" party was cancelled after receiving a letter from the mothers on Thursday, who did not want it hosted at the Trump Wollman Rink in Central Park , the New York Post reported on Friday.
The Upper East Side school, which costs about $40,000 a year, boasts successful alumni such as CNN's Anderson Cooper and actress Claire Danes.
Not all parents with children attending the school share the same sentiment as the ones who wrote the letter.
One parent called it "completely insane," saying it was a bizarre situation for people to protest and it only harms the children.
"Like him or not, it feels like a strange place for New Yorkers to protest," she said. "And sad that kids now have no skating party."
Another parent told the Post that "a clique of Upper East Side 'liberal moms'" were pressuring the headmaster of the Dalton School to cancel this event.
But the employees of the elite private school said the mothers were not the only reason for the cancellation, saying "it would not be financially prudent" to have the party because of "significantly lower attendance," according to the Daily Mail.
In 1986, Trump convinced the then-Mayor Ed Koch to allow him to complete the unfinished renovations of the ice rink that had kept it closed for six years.
He "offered to pay for the renovations himself," under the provision that he would run the venue and its adjacent restaurant after they reopened to compensate for his losses.
Neither Trump Wollman Rink nor Dalton's Headmaster Ellen Stein commented on the episode, the Daily Mail reported.
