Krueger Won’t Say If White House Wants Payroll Tax Cut to Expire or Not

BY:

Alan B. Krueger, the chairman of President Obama’s Council of Economic Advisers, declined Monday to say whether the White House supports the expiration of the payroll tax cut:

WOLF BLITZER: But what about the payroll tax cut. Does the White House want that to lapse, go away, or be extended?

KRUEGER: Well, as you know Wolf, there are a lot of tax provisions that are expiring at the end of the year. First and foremost, I think Congress should pass an extension of the middle-class tax cuts. There will be time to consider other proposals like the payroll tax cut.
