Krueger Won’t Say If White House Wants Payroll Tax Cut to Expire or Not

Alan B. Krueger, the chairman of President Obama’s Council of Economic Advisers, declined Monday to say whether the White House supports the expiration of the payroll tax cut:

WOLF BLITZER: But what about the payroll tax cut. Does the White House want that to lapse, go away, or be extended?

KRUEGER: Well, as you know Wolf, there are a lot of tax provisions that are expiring at the end of the year. First and foremost, I think Congress should pass an extension of the middle-class tax cuts. There will be time to consider other proposals like the payroll tax cut.
