Sen. Kamala Harris (D., Calif.) on Thursday appeared to joke about killing President Donald Trump, Vice President Mike Pence, or Attorney General Jeff Sessions if she was stuck on an elevator with one of them.
Harris appeared on "The Ellen Show" with host Ellen DeGeneres to discuss several issues, including a round of rapid-fire questions about her job and personal life.
"If you had to be stuck in an elevator with either President Trump, Mike Pence, or Jeff Sessions, who would it be?" DeGeneres asked.
"Does one of us have to come out alive?" joked Harris, prompting DeGeneres to start clapping.
While the audience responded favorably to Harris' joke, she appeared to have missed her mark. Presumedly, if everyone wasn't going to come out of the hypothetical elevator alive, she would at least want one person–herself–to do so.
Harris, who has been floated as a potential 2020 presidential candidate, was also asked about her future ambitions, but was very coy with her response. She deflected DeGeneres' question by saying that she was focusing on "pressing issues" like the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) immigration program and pushing for an assault weapons ban.
