DNC Officials Accuse Each Other of Lying

October 13, 2015

Two top Democratic Party officials accused one another of lying Tuesday about Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D., Hawaii) being disinvited to the first Democratic presidential debate.

Gabbard, who is the vice chair of the Democratic National Committee, said she was disinvited to Tuesday night’s debate by DNC chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D., Fla.) after she called for more debates on the Democratic side.

On MSNBC, Schultz said that it wasn’t true that Gabbard was disinvited to the debate.

"What about your vice chair, Tulsi Gabbard, the congresswoman from Hawaii, who says you told her she could not come here today?" Andrea Mitchell asked.

"That's simply not the case," Schultz said. "She is continuing to focus on process which she's entitled to do. We asked if she could focus on those issues and she chose not to come because I guess she can't."

Later that day, Andrea Mitchell asked Gabbard to respond to Schultz’s comments.

"I can't say much more than to say that that's just not true," Gabbard said.

"I was on your network, MSNBC, talking on Meet the Press Daily about how we do need more debates, the same thing that I have been saying now for several weeks, and the very next day got a message saying that if I'm going to continue talking about that, that I shouldn't go to the debate. It's not surprising to me that she is saying things that aren't true."

Gabbard isn’t the only one who has criticized how the Democrat party has conducted its debate process.

Presidential candidate Martin O’Malley (D., Md.) has called out Schultz for rigging the primary for Hillary Clinton.
