CNN Host Wants to Know if She Invented Viral Hashtag by Saying 'Trussia'

May 24, 2017

CNN "New Day" host Alisyn Camerota hoped she had created a viral hashtag out of thin air on Wednesday by "accidentally" saying "Trussia," a combination of Donald Trump and Russia.

During an interview on Wednesday with FEC Democratic Commissioner Ellen Weintraub, Camerota stumbled while reading the screen and combined the words Trump and Russia into "Trussia."

"The Trussia—sorry, the Trump-Russia investigation—I've now turned it into one word—continues to grow," Camerota said.

Later in the hour, Camerota ended a segment with CNN political director David Chalian by discussing when she "accidentally merged" the words Trump and Russia in the earlier interview.

"Do you feel that this is a hashtag that could take off today?" Camerota asked.

Chalian laughed and said it was a "potential viral" moment, but he said he felt it only had legs for the day.

"I feel it's catchy," she said.

Co-host Chris Cuomo volunteered that it should be reversed and be "Rump," as in Russia-Trump.
