CNN media reporter Brian Stelter mocked Fox News host Sean Hannity after news broke he would speak to Donald Trump Jr. on his program Tuesday night, tweeting "the real journalists at Fox News" must be disappointed to not get the big interview themselves.
Trump Jr. is at the center of a growing scandal concerning a meeting he took with a Russian lawyer last summer, in the middle of his father's presidential campaign. The New York Times reported Sunday that Trump Jr. took the meeting believing he would get compromising information on Hillary Clinton from the lawyer, Natalia Veselnitskaya.
Trump Jr. released emails that set up the meeting on Tuesday, in which he said he would "love" to get the potential information about Clinton that an intermediary said was "part of Russia and its government's support for Mr. Trump."
Upon hearing that the embattled eldest son of the president would appear on Hannity's Fox News program, Stelter tweeted, "The real journalists at Fox News must be disappointed that Don Jr. is talking to Hannity, not them."

Hannity retorted shortly after, saying "at least Fox has real journalists" and taking a shot at CNN's ratings. Hannity, an unabashed Donald Trump supporter whose commentary frequently goes after the president's critics, has stated he is not a journalist.

Hannity and Stelter have frequently feuded in the past, with Hannity once calling Stelter a "FNC [Fox News Channel] stalker."
