Bill Clinton Grabs Bite to Eat Before Joining Verizon Protesters

April 18, 2016

During Bill Clinton's visit in Buffalo, New York, on Monday, he took some time to grab a bite to eat at a local restaurant before joining Verizon protesters.

Clinton spent the first part of Monday in Buffalo helping his wife campaign for the upcoming New York primary, which will be held Tuesday.

He was reported by ABC-WKBW taking a quick stop at Alton's. After getting something to eat, Clinton ran across the street to join the Verizon employees that are currently on strike.

His wife's competitor in trying to clinch the Democratic nomination, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.), pulled a similar move after one of his rallies five days prior.

About 36,000 Verizon employees decided to go on a strike due to a lack of a new labor agreement.

CNN Money discussed the frustration behind the employees:

Among the union workers' list of complaints: the offshoring of thousands of jobs to workers abroad, outsourcing work to low-wage, non-union contractors and the closing of call centers in the U.S. But one of their chief complaints is about being forced to work in locations far from home for months at a time.

Verizon lineman Ting Chin, who already commutes more than 80 miles from Poughkeepsie, NY, to Manhattan, said that several of his colleagues were sent to Buffalo, New York– almost 400 miles away–for a long-term job, a fate that he says he narrowly avoided.

"They want to pick and choose who they want to send and they want to be able to do it at any time," he said.
