House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.) sounded a bit like President Donald Trump on Monday when she said it would be "bad news for his people" if North Korean leader Kim Jong Un carried through on any of his belligerent threats.
On MSNBC's "Andrea Mitchell Reports," Pelosi criticized Trump's rhetoric "giving a platform to Kim Jong Un," calling the young North Korean dictator beneath the discussion about the safety of the world.
Under his dictatorship, North Korea has defied the international community with nuclear tests and threats to attack the U.S. and its allies. Pelosi, who has visited North Korea, said she does not think his threats are serious but noted the consequences if they were.
"I think that Kim Jong Un is a bully," Pelosi said. "I don't think he's ever going to do any of these things. Anything he does has a return address, so he must know that it's bad news for his people should he do anything."
Trump took criticism from Democrats and members of the media for saying last week that the U.S. would be be forced to "totally destroy" North Korea if it or its allies were attacked.
Kim released a statement calling Trump a deranged "dotard" who would have to be cleansed "with fire" in response to his remarks. Trump, who has nicknamed Kim "Rocket Man," tweeted Saturday that the country "won't be around much longer" if its leaders are not careful.
