This should keep all the would-be criminals out.

After a man carrying a knife made it inside the front door of the White House on Friday, the Secret Service decided to step up its security--with a waist-high rounded-corner fence. The barrier is closer to Thomas Jefferson's original White House fence, which was intended to keep out wandering livestock, than one to keep potential security risks out.

The crowd-control barrier sits 12 feet in front of the existing wrought-iron fence, which stands at 7 feet 6 inches tall. The fence has not changed since the Lyndon B. Johnson administration.

The approach doesn't come as much of a surprise, though.
