A man crashed his car into a gate outside at the CIA headquarters outside of Washington, D.C., early Monday, according to authorities.
The Associated Press, citing court documents, reported that Thomas Luu was charged with destruction of property after ramming his Ford Focus into the agency’s chain-linked gate at 2 a.m. Monday. The 35-year-old from Maryland then drove 75 feet into the compound.
Luu told agents the CIA recruited him and said he crashed into the eight-foot gate to capture the agency’s attention.
Authorities said they found Luu kneeling on the ground with his hands behind his head.
His mother told a local station he had disappeared overnight and was troubled by the Orlando terrorist attack that killed 54 at a gay nightclub Sunday.
The CIA declined to comment further on the incident.
